Mr. Patrick Kalona, ACA
Chairman 

Patrick Kalona has been appointed in July 2021 as the elected Chairman of the AAHSA. Patrick joined the AAHSA Executive Committee in 2013 and is assisting in the ASEAN Harmonization process. Patrick has also been elected as Chairperson of Assosiasi Pengusaha Supplement Kesehatan Indonesia ( APSKI) since 2014. During this time its members have increased to 77 companies. Patrick is currently the acting CEO of PT. Phytochemindo Reksa, a company with over 30 years experience in natural ingredients and health supplement toll manufacturing based in Bogor, Indonesia. Patrick has obtained a Bachelors degree from the London School of Economics and is also a registered Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales.

     
 

Dr. Doreen Tan, PBM
Vice Chairman 

Doreen Tan is the elected President of the Health Supplements Industry Association of Singapore (HSIAS) and has been an executive member of AAHSA since 2009. She is President and co-founder of Best World International Ltd. With 35 years experience in this industry, she has a rich professional knowledge of beauty and nutrition. She holds a degree in Applied Nutrition from the American Academy of Nutrition. Her extensive knowledge, combined with her deep understanding of consumers' needs, have led her to serve as Best World Group’s key product specialist.

     
 

Dr. Janjira Intra
Vice Chairman

Janjira Intra worked in a myraid of different professions. She is currently the Technical Regulatory and Quality Assurance Deputy Director of Amway (Thailand) Ltd. She is a specialist in developing solid-dosage products and took on leadership roles in many professional memberships and activities, making her very well-rounded product development, nutraceutical and pharmaceutical scientist. Before her current appointment, Janjira served as the head of Himalaya Global Research Centre in Dubai, UAE.  Ms. Janjira setup the R&D centre, recruited and led the team of scientists involved in dietary supplement, cosmetics, personal care and home care products. She was able to push boundaries and is not afraid to strive to better herself. Throughout her course of studies, Janjira achieved multiple research developments, which catapulted her career. Between 2012 - 2013, she participated in the development and global launch of Calcium Supplement of $200M USD SKU for Nutrilite/Amway. Ms Janjira also published her research papers and owns several patent rights.

     

 

Ms. Leni P. Olmedo
Honorary Secretary

Leni Olmedo is is the Chairman and President of The Health and Dietary Supplement Association of the Philippines, Inc. (HADSAP) and a board director for The Direct Selling Association of the Philippines (DSAP) where she actively leads the Communications Committee. She holds degree in Psychology from the University of the Philippines-Diliman where she also finished a Master of Business Administration degree. She is the Country Manager of Amway Philippines L.L.C. and has been with Amway Philippines for twelve years. Leni has two decades of marketing experience in the consumer, pharmaceutical and direct selling industries. She has been a member of the Haribon Foundation, the leading nature conservation membership organization, since 2002.

     
 

Mr. Pichit Pongsukvechkul
Assistant Honorary Secretary

Pichit Pongsukvechkul Since serves as the President of Health Food and Supplement Association of Thailand (HFSA) since 2017. He is involved actively in the dialogue sessions with government advisory boards and ASEAN meetings. He received his Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences degree from Chulalongkorn University and Master in Business Administration from Thammasat University in 1997. He has more than 20 years of professional experience, which spans regulatory, operational issues and consulting relating to dietary supplements. 

     

 

Ms. Leng Leo
Honorary Treasurer

Leng Leo is the secretary of the Health Supplements Industry Association of Singapore. She has been involved in the nutraceuticals and health supplements industry since 1982 and has been the Honorary Secretary of AAHSA since 2009. She has been closely involved in AAHSA since the early stages of the  ASEAN harmonisation for Traditional  Medicines and Health Supplements (TMHS). Leng handles Product Development and Regulatory Affairs for LAC Global Pte. Ltd. in Singapore. In terms of ASEAN TMHS harmonisation, she aims to continue to facilitate efforts within industries, stakeholders and regulatory agencies in the hope of reducing trade barriers while ensuring consumer safety.

 
       

 

Mr. Muthu Kumar Shanmunghom
Assistant Honorary Treasurer

Muthu Kumar Shanmunghom is a Committee Member and Immediate Past President of the Malaysian Dietary Supplement Association. He has previously served as an elected Committee Member of as well as Internal Auditor for AAHSA. Muthu has over 15 year’s of experience in the healthcare and pharmaceutical areas. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) with Honours from the University of Malaya, Malaysia and a Masters degree in Information Technology from the National University Malaysia. He has extensive experiences in PIC/s GMP and Regulatory Affairs. He represents the Technical Committee of the MADSA, and is involved in Traditional Medicines and Health Supplements (TMHS) technical working groups on matters related to ASEAN TMHS.

     
 

Mr. Brian Choo
Committee Member

Brian Choo is management committee member of the Health and Cosmetic Association, Brunei Darussalam (HCA). He is concurrently an elected  committee member of the Malaysian Dietary Supplement Association. He has more than 20 years of diverse RA, QA, consumer health medical affairs, compliance & product development experience in the pharmaceuticals (NCEs + generic), traditional medicines, health supplements, food, cosmetic & medical device industries spanning across W&D, home-grown SMEs, MNCs and MLM business segments. He received his Bachelor of Science (Applied Science) Chemistry/Biology dual majors from the Campbell University (North Carolina, US) & was the regulatory committee member (consumer health) of the Pharmaceutical Association of Malaysia (PhAMA) advocating the self-medication and Rx-OTC switch projects. He has been actively engaged in the PhAMA  and the ASEAN TMHS harmonisation developments nad progress as well as been regularly involved in many local industry dialogues with the regulators (e.g. NPRA) with respect to the product regulations, quality standards GMP inspections and national public policies (e.g. direct selling laws).

     
 

Dato.Dr. Rajen M.

Committee Member

Rajen Manicka is a pharmacist with a Doctorate in Holistic Medicine. He also has a Masters in Business Administration. He was a founding member of the Malaysian Dietary Supplement Association (MADSA) in 2003 and is now the current president. Rajen also led the team that wrote the National Blueprint for Malaysia for Herbal Medicine in 2006. He runs the Holista Group of companies in the Australian Stock Exchange.

     
 

Dr. Tran Dang

Committee Member

Tran Dang has a long history of involvement with the Health Supplement/Dietary Supplement industry in Vietnam from its very beginning. He was the former General Director of the Vietnam Food Administration, Ministry of Health (2000 to 2008), which is the government regulator of the Health Supplement/Dietary Supplement industry in Vietnam . Tran Dang is widely recognised as the driving force behind policy development for Food Safety Management in Vietnam including the promulgation of Decree 79 of the Government, setting up the management, audit, testing and analysis for Food Safety which  recently evolved into the current Food Safety Law (effective since July 2011). He has extensive knowledge and experience of developments and regulatory issues in the Vietnam market.

Mr. Aswan 
Internal Auditor

Aswan is the Chairman of the Supervisory Committee of  Assosiasi Pengusaha Supplement Kesehatan Indonesia (APSKI), a founding member of AAHSA. He has been on the Executive Committee of AAHSA since 2009. Mr. Aswan has been actively involved in the ASEAN Traditional Medicines & Health Supplements Regulatory Harmonisation Product Working Group since the beginning of the process. He has vast experience and industry knowledge about the Indonesian health supplements and traditional medicines market.

     

 

Ms. Chong Nyet Chin 
Internal Auditor

Ms. Chong is the elected Vice President of Health Supplements Industry Association (HSIAS). She holds a Science degree in Chemistry from NUS and an MBA from Leicester University, UK. With over 20 years of expertise in quality assurance and food safety, she specializes in GMP, HACCP, ISO standards, and Total Quality Management. As Technical Chair for food processing and distribution under Singapore's food standards committee, she collaborates with authorities like SFA and ESG on Cold Chain, Organic certification, and FMCG standards. Recognized with ESG's Merit Award in 2017, Ms Chong oversees food safety, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance at FairPrice, driving risk management and system frameworks to ensure safety from source to store.  

     
 

Mr. Daniel Quek
Executive Director

Daniel Quek took up the role of Executive Director in 2021. He was the founding Chairman of the ASEAN Alliance of Health Supplement Associations from 2006 - 2021. Throughout his his long career and eminent service in the cause of the Health Supplements (HS) industry, Daniel has witnessed and indeed helped the ASEAN HS industry successfully navigate the diverse government and regulatory policies to accelerate growth for both industry players and local economies. He continues to represent the industry at the ASEAN Consultative Committee on Standards and Quality for Traditional Medicines and Health Supplements Product Working Group in the drive towards a Harmonised HS Regulatory regime. He is also an Advisor and Honorary President of the Health Supplements Industry Association of Singapore. Daniel is concurrently the Honorary Secretary on the management committee of the UN Global Compact Network Singapore, the leading voice on corporate sustainability in Singapore. He had previously served as a member of the Singapore Food Agency's inaugural Advisory Committee on the Evaluation of Health Claims. Daniel has over 30 years of experience in multinational companies managing corporate sustainability, regulatory and public affairs including crisis and marketing communications. He holds a Master of Business Administration degree from James Cook University (Australia), a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree and a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration from the National University of Singapore. He also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the Singapore Institute of Education.

     
 

Dr. BH Lim
Regulatory Director

BH Lim joined the Secretariat Team in 2021 as the Regulatory Director. BH brings with him more than 20 years of experience in regulatory affairs. BH is the current Chair of the AAHSA Scientific Committee. He represents AAHSA in the ASEAN TMHS Scientific Committee (ATSC) and at the ASEAN Traditional Medicines & Health Supplements Product Working Group (TMHS PWG) where he has been an active member, making significant contributions to the development of the ASEAN health supplement standards / guidelines.

     
 

Ms. Laurie Chin
Manager

Laurie Chin handles the day-to-day administrative matters of the association. She graduated with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration, majoring in Marketing. Laurie also manages the secretariat for the Health and Cosmetics Association in Brunei Darussalam and for the Health Supplements Industry Association (Singapore).
